Question #1:
Are all reports held by the Library in the online Library Catalog?
No, only about a third of the 1.5 million unclassified
reports held by the Research Library appear in the library
catalog.
We are gradually creating catalog records for all our reports. Classified and
unclassified controlled reports are not included in the library catalog.
If you do not find the report you want in the catalog
please check with Library staff to determine availability. (email,
7-4446, 5-2948[Fax] or MS P364).
Question #2:
Can I locate technical reports by report number in the Library
Catalog?
Yes. See the search tips on finding reports in the catalog.
If you do not find the report you want in the catalog
please check with Library staff to determine availability. (email,
7-4446, 5-2948[Fax] or MS P364).
Question #3:
Do reports in the Report Library circulate?
Unclassified reports circulate to Laboratory staff. Reports in
paper can be checked out for 28 days and those in microfiche for
7 days. Reports may be renewed if someone else has not requested
the report. Unclassified reports that are not publicly releasable may be consulted
in the Research Library.
For reports that do not circulate, we can have a copy made for
you -- for details, see Question #4.
Question #4:
What are my options for getting a personal copy of a report?
If the Library has the report, it can be photoreproduced.
Requests involving 25 pages or less we will make for you at no charge.
Over 25 pages, you can make your own copy or it can be sent to
the IRM-RMMSO PrintShop which charges for its services.
If the Library does not have the report
you have two options:
(1) You can order the report through Otowi Station bookstore,
just as you would order a personal copy of a book;
(2) With a LANL purchase card, you can place your order directly
with DOE OSTI, NTIS, DTIC or NASA — see How
to obtain reports.
Question #5
What Los Alamos technical reports are available electronically?
Over 40,000 Los Alamos technical reports are available in
electronic form and can be accessed through the Library Catalog. These include
the LA- (formal) report series, LALP- series, and LA-UR series and
go back to 1943. If a report you
are interested in is not yet available electronically, please contact us. (email,
7-4446, 5-2948[Fax] or MS P364)
Question #6:
As a Los Alamos researcher, how can I get my LA-UR report
up on the Library's web server?
Please send electronic copies of reports to
la-pubs@lanl.gov. We prefer PDF
files, however most major file formats are acceptable, excepting
TeX. TeX files should be converted to postscript. Paper copies may be sent to
us through lab mail to P364.
Please contact Kathy Varjabedian for assistance at la-pubs@lanl.gov.
Question #7:
How can I locate declassified Los Alamos reports that have
been approved for public release?
Check the Library Catalog.
If you do not find the report you want in the catalog please check
with Library staff to determine availability. (email,
7-4446, 5-2948[Fax] or MS P364).
